Who will grow our food?

Again, no one raised their hands, the government's representative asked, for the hundredth time, fighting hard to keep his faith in these lads alive; intending to see at least a hand raised in the air. Alas, no one answered in favor of the question "who would leave this paradisiac city for the remotest of villages to grow food for our busy population?"

The SS3 students of a prestigious Nigerian secondary school seem to be unrepentant of their standpoint; they wouldn't budge, they had seen a few farmers who had put their noses to the grindstone and still had almost nothing to show for their toil.

The government's representative voice was buried in the amplified noises coming from the students, one shouted "agrik no pay!" The man however, had recognized the futility of his campaign to scout for all-ready youths for agriculture, and so scurried from the podium.

What report will I give to Oga, the leaders of tomorrow have refused to soil their hands in the production of food; they all dream to one day become doctors, engineers, lawyers and accountants...For these young lads, farming isn't a turn-on, well, somehow our little world would not be wiped out by hunger, the government guy managed to mutter to himself, someone would respond to this clarion call.

So...what do we do? We need to pull off this food bank scheme, somehow, said the boss calmly. This is the most important sector in any economy, the agric sector; but when it becomes redundant? The nation crashes either from famine or insanely export culture that gulps all the money.

I never knew it is this tough to be in a political office, if I fail to get this scheme off the ground I might get stringed up by the balls. How about the kids! the young lads in the villages? Asked the government guy... We could build on their existing orientation and harness the potent beauty of the abundant vegetation in the villages. Yes! The boss exclaimed, that could be it! That could be it!
